2024 Math in the Matrix Competition
The Math in the Matrix competition is open to all students in 12th grade and under and consists of two rounds: the blitz round and the power round. There is no penalty for guessing.
Blitz Round: There are 8 questions to be solved in 15 minutes. Each question is worth 1 point.
Power Round: There are 10 questions to be solved in 60 minutes. Each question is worth 3 points. ​

Any ties will be determined by a For The Win game on Art of Problem Solving.

James Stewart
Lead Problem Writer, Test Solver, Website Developer
James has been writing original math problems and hosting math competitions since 2020. He is a 2x AIME qualifier and scored in the top 1% (DHR) on AMC 8 and 10. James is also a Spirit of Ramanujan Fellow and the founder of the MegaMath Channel. He enjoys rock climbing, skiing, and writing math problems.
Joshua Liu
Lead Test Solver, Problem Writer
Joshua is a 13-year-old who normally does math in his free time but also enjoys reading fantasy books and binging movies. He is a 3-time AIME qualifier, 3-time MATHCOUNTS nationals qualifier, and USAJMO qualifier.

Xinke Guo-Xue is a superstar math teacher and founder of Xinke's Math Academy. He is a singer in Dawson Church's Choir and plays the piano semi-professionally. In his free time, Xinke likes to eat ice cream.

Anthony is a student at River Bluff High School. In his free time, he loves to write original math problems. Anthony is a 2-time JMO HM, 3-time AIME qualifier, and a 3-time MATHCOUNTS National qualifier. Right now, he is the lead problem writer in the SMO team.

Puranjay is an AIME qualifier from Arizona and has scored in the top 1% (DHR) on the AMC 8. He is a Mathcounts National Qualifier. He has created his own YouTube Channel where he discusses interesting math problems and explains how to solve Rubik's cubes.

Nathan is a 10-year old who loves to do math everywhere. He went to Math in the Mountains in 2023 and since then has been collaborating and socializing with his friends. He enjoys playing basketball, doing robotics, and watching interesting videos.
